Please join the Deutscher Musikverein of San Francisco
for our
2026 Spring Concert and reception.
This year’s program is inspired by the theme:
“San Francisco: A City of Immigrants.”
Through a diverse and dynamic selection of works,
the concert explores the many cultural threads that have shaped the Bay Area into the vibrant,
multicultural community it is today.
Each piece reflects a different journey—of hope, struggle, resilience, and celebration,
mirroring the stories of those who have come from around the world to call San Francisco home.
From the effervescent charm of Die Fledermaus,
representing the rich German and Austrian musical traditions brought by early European immigrants,
to the deeply moving Scenes from Citizen 13660,
which reflects on the Japanese American experience during World War II,
the program highlights both joy and hardship in the immigrant story.
Suite Française pays homage to French cultural contributions,
while Of Endless Miles and Empty Rafts evokes more recent migration journeys across oceans,
capturing both the peril and courage of those seeking new beginnings.
The iconic 99 Luftballons brings a German pop perspective shaped by Cold War tensions,
while Carry On Wayward Sonreflects the restless,
searching spirit that defines so many immigrant narratives.
Adding contemporary voices,
Pink Pony Club celebrates individuality and the freedom to reinvent oneself,
an experience familiar to many who arrive in San Francisco seeking acceptance.
Forward/Still offers a modern reflection on identity and belonging.
Together, these pieces create a musical tapestry that honors the diverse backgrounds
and shared humanity that define the Bay Area.
Experience an afternoon where music transcends borders
and tells the powerful story of a city shaped by the world.
We look forward to welcoming you to this meaningful and inspiring performance.
And as usual, we will be celebrating our community
with a splendid reception afterwards featuring Prosecco and a variety of German treats.
Both the concert and reception are free of charge and open to the public with donations gladly accepted.
